Bird Flu in Colorado

Five Workers Infected on Poultry Farm

State of Emergency Declared as Cases Double in US

Five workers at a poultry farm in northeast Colorado have been identified with cases of bird flu, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The announcement over the weekend doubled the number of human cases in the US since agricultural workers began culling poultry in response to the outbreak this summer.

The infected workers are currently undergoing treatment and are isolated to prevent further spread of the virus. There have been no signs of unexpected increases in flu activity otherwise in Colorado or in other states affected by H5 bird flu outbreaks.

The Colorado Department of Agriculture has declared a state of emergency and is working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to monitor the situation and implement control measures.

The bird flu virus is highly contagious among poultry, and can cause severe illness and death in birds. The virus can also spread to humans through contact with infected birds or their feces, but it is not easily transmitted from person to person.

Symptoms of bird flu in humans can include fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches, and fatigue. In severe cases, the virus can lead to pneumonia and other serious complications.

The CDC recommends that people with close contact to poultry or their feces take precautions to prevent infection, including wearing gloves and masks and washing their hands thoroughly.
