Billy Horschel Leads For The First Time In A Major After 54 Holes

Billy Horschel Leads for the First Time in a Major After 54 Holes

Horschel Plays Bogey-Free Final Round to Win BMW PGA Championship

American Hoping to Repeat Heroics at Wentworth This Week

Billy Horschel played a bogey-free final round on Sunday at Wentworth to become the first American to win one of the European Tours Rolex Series. Horschel's victory marks the first time an American has won the BMW PGA Championship since Arnold Palmer in 1975.

"I've worked my entire life to be in this position," Horschel said after his victory. "It's an incredible feeling to finally be leading a major after 54 holes."

Horschel is hoping to repeat his BMW PGA Championship heroics of two years ago at Wentworth this week. In 2020, Horschel won the tournament by three strokes. He is currently tied for the lead with Rory McIlroy heading into the final round.

"Obviously being part of a Ryder Cup, hopefully a victorious Ryder Cup, is something that's very special to me," Horschel said. "But to be able to win a major championship, that's something that I've always dreamed of."
